As we celebrate yet another graduation season this summer, graduates from the Masters in International Business (MIB) program started their new journey after studying at Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
On Sunday, July 2, 2017, the Antai MIB graduation ceremony was held at SJTU's Xuhui campus. Almost 70 international students from the MIB program finally graduated and received their degree certification. The faculty of MIB program and the students’ families joined together to recognize their achievements.
Thanks for the unremitting efforts on cultivating those high-quality international talents, a majority of the MIB graduates have already found their dream job in China at top employers like Tencent, Ctrip and more.
In addition to the comprehensive curriculum, Antai College also organized events, collaborating with corporations and service organizations to provide more opportunities for international students.
On May 4, the "International Talent Development & Management" forum was held at Antai College of Economics & Management (ACEM), Shanghai Jiao Tong University. They invited guests from 25 different companies, who were employers or potential employers for graduates from the Master of International Business program, to discuss how to develop capable international talents and facilitate their career development in China.
The forum started with a speech from Dean Zhou Lin. He warmly welcomed all the guests and talked about the internationalization process of ACEM, starting from inviting faculty from overseas to development of a specialized postgraduate program attracting outstanding international students to ACEM from all over the world. Moreover, he expressed his expectation for close and innovative collaboration between ACEM and the industry to train high-quality international talents for international business. Then Professor Lu Lin, Director of the MIB program, introduced the program. The diversity of the students' backgrounds, specially designed curriculum and various activities impressed the industry guests.
China has recently issued new policies about foreigners’ employment, including graduates from Chinese universities. In this forum, ACEM invited a guest speaker Lisa Liu to talk about the visa and residence permit policies. The guests understood that the national policy is opening up to foreign residents, making it easier for foreigners to work and live in China. Additional policy changes are expected within the next couple of years. Shanghai currently has the most flexible visa/residence permit policy for foreigners.
The second session was a panel discussion hosted by Professor Tang Ningyu, Associated Dean of ACEM. Three guests were invited to join the panel and they respectively represented foreign invested companies, private companies and state-owned enterprises in China. They held a discussion on the challenges of international personnel management, employers’ expectation of international talents, as well as how to collaborate efficiently with the university to recruit and develop international talents for future business in China. The guests responded actively to the discussion.
The forum finished with a close speech from Dr. Zhang Dong Hong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee in ACEM. He expressed confidence and expectation for future collaboration between ACEM and the industry.
