Since starting out three years ago with wild ambitions of establishing itself as the Mainland’s version of EDM mega-festivals like Tomorrowland and Ultra, the Budweiser Storm Festival has established itself as a bona fide October holiday tradition. Last year, they sold out all tickets on both
nights, and they’re back for another star-studded edition, this time at Shanghai Shendi, a massive location near Shanghai Disney. Stay tuned for our full preview closer to the Oct 1-2 date and get hyped for these announced headliners.
Skrillex
The former punk singer is credited/blamed with popularizing dubstep in America thanks to nasty sounding anthems like‘Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites.' While the ‘bro-step’ backlash was fierce, Skrillex keeps one step ahead. His Jack Ü project with Diplo scored this year’s Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album and helped kick off Bieber’s road to redemption thanks to their already classic single,‘Where Are Ü Now.’ After coheadlining last year’s Budweiser Storm Festival Shanghai, he’s back again to perform on October 1.
Hardwell
The Dutch big room house and electro DJ is one of five DJs to repeat at the top of DJ Magazine’s fan-voted Top 100 DJ list. While he’s sitting at number two right now, Hardwell continues to push through new frontiers. Last year, he released his debut studio disc United We Are and played a massive festival show in Mumbai that raised enough funds to provide 18,000 children with free education. He hasn’t slowed down in 2016, releasing a collaborative single with Afrojack and performing the first EDM virtual reality live stream. Performs on October 2.
Oliver Heldens
The Rotterdam DJ and producer first rose to prominence three years ago when EDM legend Tiësto signed him after hearing his single, 'Gecko.’ Currently ranked as the number one house DJ by DJ Mag’s hallowed Top 100 DJs list, Heldens has begun expanding his sound releasing three hit bass house tracks under the alias Hi-Lo. Performs on October 2.
Alesso
From teaching himself how to make beats in his bedroom in Stockholm five years ago to scoring over 40 million Spotify streams for his Grammy nominated, Billboard dance chart-topping remix for ‘If I Lose Myself,’ it’s been a wild ride for Alesso. Swedish House Mafia’s Sebastian Ingrosso was an early champion and EDM mega-stars Calvin Harris, Pete Tong and Avicii count themselves as fans. With numerous Beatport-charting hits and soldout shows around the globe, anticipation has grown to a fever pitch for Alesso’s forthcoming debut album thanks to its appropriately titled lead single, ‘Tear the Roof Up.’ Performs on October 1.
