New Noise are bringing back the Scandinavian shoegaze giants for what promises to be a packed show. The Nordic Award winners have built up a rabid fanbase through mixing indie and dreampop sounds in an electronic haze. Their album Lesser Matters was included in NME’s Album of the Decade. July 2: AV Okubo and Dirty Fingers
School’s out and this national series of shows celebrates by bringing some of China’s top indie acts together for a raucous welcome to the summer party season. The Shanghai show is particularly killer, pairing Wuhan break-wave pioneers AV Okubo (whose fans include Gang of Four’s Andy Gill) with hometown heroes, Dirty Fingers. July 2: The Shanghai Beatles
Take a trip back to the Swinging Sixties as The Pearl hosts this British Invasion night featuring Shanghai’s very own version of the Fab four. July 2-15: Music in the Summer Air (MISA)
For six years, Music in the Summer Air (MISA) has been one of Shanghai’s most eclectic festivals, bridging contemporary classical with other mediums. With a theme of The Swinging Sixties, MISA 7 boasts a stacked and diverse lineup featuring Jane Birkin, famed collaborator and muse to Serge Gainsbourg, a modern take on The Dark Side of the Moon, a Warholian tribute from the founder of Galaxie 500, the world premiere of a new piece by award-winning Turkish pianist Fazil Say and several performances by he world renowned New York Philharmonic, who serves as this year's MISA orchestra-in-residence.
