The Nest, Shanghai's preternaturally popular gastrolounge and bar, is throwing a 'White Night' party this Saturday to celebrate Summer Solstice, AKA the longest day of the year.
"In Scandinavia, Northern Europe and Russia it's light all evening, and they celebrate this by parting all through the night," Nest laoban Mark Klingspon explains. "We'll be doing a Nest-style interpretation of this tradition."
Klingspon tells us to expect elegant white decorations inside, a Russian accordion performances and fair maidens "pouring icy cold vodka shots for guests." Ha sdarovye!
For eats and drinks there will be 'White Night' food and cocktail specials available, in addition to an outdoor barbecue serving skewers. In another nod to Slavic tradition, they'll have kvass on tap – a Russian and Baltic-style fermented alcoholic beverage made from dark or rye bread. We're guessing that's like kombucha for non-hippies?
As per, usual there's no admission fee, though reservations for tables is recommended. We've had a hard time getting a mid-week res let alone one at the weekend, so book early to avoid disappointment.
5pm-3am, Saturday June 25, The Nest
