By That's Shanghai, May 5, 2016

154 years ago the Mexican Army won a battle against the French, giving future generations the perfect excuse to party in kind-of remembrance.

These celebrations extend all the way into Shanghai, and before you worry about where to go or what to do, here are some events we’ve compiled for your perusal:

Cinco de... Mayita

Even before you read this, you must have had Mayita in mind, one of Shanghai’s top Mexi-Cali joints. For the Cinco they’re going all out, with food and drink specials, live music and face-painting. And if your Mexican or French accent is convincing enough, you get a free shot of Olmeca tequila.

RMB25 gets you three different margaritas, wine and Sol beer, or sangria; RMB75 gets you their chicken casserole, a meat plate with chorizo, chicken and taco al pastor with rice and beans. Mayita, see event listing.

Yuge Party at Zapata’s

Another Mexican favorite in Shanghai, Zapata’s offers a taco buffet from 6pm to 10pm with drinks a gogo. Later, you’ll be treated to a Corona-drinking Contest, free hourly tequila shots and, to top it all off, of course, a Trump Piñata. It’s gonna yuge.

RMB128 for the taco buffet with free flow of Carlsberg and Frozen Tequilas, with reservations. Zapata’s, see event listing.

F*** Your Friday at Logan’s Punch

Known for its cocktails, Logan’s Punch will be doing a tequila special tomorrow, with the special offer of two margaritas for RMB60, which they’ll be mass-producing all night. Why? To quote them, “Because f*** your liver, f*** your Friday, and f*** our bartenders could use some exercise, that's why.”

Logan’s Punch, see event listing.

Nachos and Beer at Shanghai Beer Factory

Shanghai Beer Factory is offering a Cinco de Mayo food and drink special throughout the entire month of May, giving you a much-needed excuse to indulge in the fiesta all month long. For RMB100 you can receive medium sized beef nachos and 2 home brewed 330ml craft beers. Ole!

Hence, all three of their branches have set aside Thursday, Friday and Saturday for the occasion, featuring drink specials, face-painting and live music. And at the Hengshan location, “Pistolera girls to party with you.” What more could you want?
