Kung Fu Komedy presents the Philly stand-up who has New York City buzzing. Acclaimed for his honest storytelling, Martin is able to mine laughs from a hard knock childhood moving from one home to another as a foster child. Last year, he hit an unofficial comedy-making milestone – making his debut on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Congratulations on coming to China? Will this be your first time here?

Thank you, this is my first time in China. Besides performing, which I'm super stoked about, I'm hoping to do as much as possible. I’m going to stuff my face with delicious food, and hoping to see the sights, and party like a Z list celebrity.

How would you describe your comedy style?

I like staying based in reality and pulling from my life and the things I've actually experienced.

Did you have a eureka moment when you realized you had to become a comedian?

It was never my life long goal to be a comedian. It was something I wanted to try, but once I tried it, I was hooked. I love watching comedians that are about to break and make it big like Lil Rel, Jerrod Carmichael, Michael Che, Derek Gaines, Mark Normand and Dan soder

You grew up in foster care and use that experience as inspiration for your comedy. Was that something you were also doing as a kid going through that or a relatively more recent thing?

Honestly, I didn't know I could laugh at most of my experiences as a child until a comedian named Keith Robinson helped me see the funny in all those things I went through. So yes it's more recent.

Why did you decide to move from Philly to New York?

I want to be great at comedy and in order to do that you have to go to where the greats go. There are great comedians who never leave their home base. I didn't want to take that chance. Moving to NYC was the best decision I've ever made.

How was performing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon? Did it change your life much?

It was an amazing experience that went by in a blink of an eye. It was an unreal moment in my life. Doing Fallon was a goal on mine since I started do comedy. I was more excited that I reached another goal with in a two year time period. Life changing in the eyes of others maybe, maybe not. For me it was just another building block to towards building my legacy.

Besides standup are there any projects that you are working on that you'd like to promote?

Yes, I'm working on my own bio show and I shot a pilot with a cool network. That's all I can tell you.

Local comedy scenes are starting to develop across China. Any advice to people starting out?

Bomb as much as possible, that's the only way to get better. Challenge you self in every way possible.

Do you have any New Years Resolutions for 2016?

I don't really do New Years resolutions. Why wait for a new year to change my life? I just want to become more focused and reach a lot of personal goals.
