Dragon Boat festival is almost here, which means that zongzi season is upon us! According to Chinese tradition, when a loyal and upstanding official in ancient China named Qu Yuan committed suicide by drowning himself in a river after being framed for treason, the local people raced out in boats and threw balls of sticky rice into the river to prevent the fish from eating his body. Today, this event is commemorated with both dragon boat races and the eating of zongzi.
This delicious snack consisting of steamed sticky rice and assorted fillings wrapped in a leaf is not only a crowd-pleasing favorite but is conveniently cooked in its own wrapping, making it the perfect grab and go snack! Join us on Tuesday in learning how to make this iconic snack!
We'll be making two flavors, pork/salty egg yolk and red bean paste.
