For the 10th consecutive year, BLN Restaurants & Caterings is proud to once again hold its annual traditional German style Christmas market. For the first time, the event will be hold at 555 Shibo Avenue, home of Paulaner Bräuhaus Shanghai @ EXPO and Ambrosia Teppanyaki Restaurant.
Christmas markets are a delightful way to begin holiday festivities, as they bring light and warmth to the cold and dark season. They are a charming, enjoyable tradition that dates back hundreds of years in the German-speaking parts of Europe.
Christmas markets light up towns with gaiety, fun, laughter, seasonal decorations and gifts as well as good food and drink during the merry season – usually from end of November until the day before Christmas Eve. Today, there are many Christmas markets throughout Germany and each has its own special charm, unique to the community and region.
In Southern Germany, where BLN Restaurants & Caterings’ flagship brand Paulaner originated, Christmas markets are typically called "Christkindlmarkt" (lit.: Christ child market). There, the “Christkindl” (lit.: Christ child), traditionally acted out by a local girl with golden locks, appears regularly to greet visitors, sing carols or recite poems during the early evening market hours.
True to its roots, BLN Restaurants & Caterings’ 10th Christmas market will bring the sweet smell and sounds of a classic Southern German “Christkindlmarkt” during the first December weekend to Shanghai.
The spacious garden of 555 Shibo Avenue will be customarily set up with 70 seasonally decorated wooden huts and the crisp, cold air will be filled with the fragrance of sizzling sausages and hot spiced Glühwein. Again, a “Candy Huts” corner with traditional treats, such as Belgian waffles, sugar roasted almonds, crepes and Magenbrot (German style gingerbread), will put a joyous smile on everyone’s face, while carefully selected vendors will sell characteristic seasonal items, such as festive Christmas trees, lovely Christmas wreaths, ornaments and decoration, select artisanal produce and handicrafts as well as Christmas gifts, holiday greeting cards and accessories.
