After three nights of musical mayhem, a couple of broken guitar strings and countless pints of beer, the finalists have been selected for Hooley’s 8th Annual Battle of the Bands. The expert panel of judges (after serious deliberation and a couple of vodka tonics) settled on six bands: Asker Band, Gun, Memory Car, Mojoheads, Wizzards of Doom and Spacefolk.
The preliminary rounds were held from Thursday, November 10 through Saturday, November 12, and showcased 28 talented acts from across the Pearl River Delta.
Judging duties were shared by Kara Schroeder, Ej Basa, Ace Eribal and That’s PRD’s very own Matt Bossons.
“I’d like to thank all the bands for being a part of our music festival, the judges have a very tough time choosing the six finalists out of the 28 bands that participated,” said Battle of the Bands organizer Jon Bijlani. “Each and every band was fantastic in their own way and I am so happy that 28 bands got together in the three-day event.”
The finals will kick off at 8pm this Saturday, November 19, at Hooley’s Irish Pub. If you have never had a chance to attend the BOTB finale, we assure you it is one of Guangzhou’s premier yearly events – particularly for those passionate about local independent music. Be warned: chairs, tables and even standing space fills up quickly – so make sure to show up early!
