March 9: Trivia at The Tavern

Join trivia at The Tavern Sports Bar in Zhujiang every Wednesday night. With up to eight players per team, you stand the chance to win three prizes. First place wins a RMB500 voucher to be used at the Tavern, second place gets a RMB200 voucher and third place snags a tower of Tiger.

March 10: Francophonie Festival Fashion Show

The 2016 Francophonie Festival will kick off with a fashion show by La Sape (The Society of Ambiance Makers and Elegant People), which is a movement that was born during the war for independence in Brazzaville and Kinshasa in the Congo. More than just a parade, this evening will offer an intoxicating show of entrancing, rhythmic music. Representatives of member countries of the Francophonie International Organization will be present, including those hailing from Belgium, Canada, the Congo, the Ivory Coast, France, Greece, Mali and Switzerland. The evening will reinforce a message of unity amongst diversity. Entry to this even is free, but please email Cicong.liang@diplomatie.gouv.fr to make a reservation.

March 10: Hooley's Trivia Night

Every Thursday evening, Hooley's presents a night of trivia. Head over to indulge in a wide range of questions and prizes for the top three teams! Hang around after to enjoy live music.

March 12: Happy Hunting

A great chance to meet new friends and explore Guangzhou, The Happy Monk’s Happy Hunting is returning this Saturday. The scavenger hunt begins at The Happy Monk Xingsheng at 4pm and will finish at The Happy Monk’s Happy Valley Mall location, where a buffet dinner will be available. Call Mandy (135 0151 5029) or Joanne (180 3323 6853) for reservations and further information.

Tuesday – Sunday: War Horse

Originating from British author Michael Morpurgo’s novel War Horse, Joey, a horse purchased by the British army during World War I, was further made famous by Steven Spielberg’s 2011 screen adaptation. Initially taken to the stage by the UK’s National Theatre in 2007, the play War Horse has long been acclaimed as the new symbol of British culture. Co-produced by the National Theatre of China, the Chinese edition will be on stage at the Guangzhou Opera House. Experience a heart-warming story of friendship, tenacity and faith.

Until March 21: Les Sapeurs de Bacongo

In the context of the 2016 edition of the Francophonie, Congolese photographer Baudouin Mouanda will present his series, The Fire of Bacongo, which captures the vitality of the movement in Brazzaville, capital of the Republic of the Congo. Mouanda began his career as a photographer in 1993 and soon became a columnist for the local newspaper Brazzavilloise, where he pondered over wars in the Congo with his work The Aftermath of War. His exhibition in Guangzhou is sure to be a riveting reflection on human strife.
