Images have been going viral on Chinese social media lately of an old beggar in Beijing counting his earnings in a local post office near to Beijing West Train Station.

Surrounded by the mountain of bills — mainly RMB1 but also peppered with the odd RMB100 bill — post office employees help the man sort through and count his month's earning, which he then remits back to his home village in Jiangsu province.

According to the post office employees who shot and uploaded the photos, the man is a regular visitor. Though no information was provided as to the creative ways he obtains his earnings, the unnamed beggar is alleged to send back up to RMB10,000  every month — that's four times the expected starting salary for university graduates nationally, and over twice the average salary in the capital.
