Temperatures across China soared this week as several orange and red alerts were raised in cities around the country. 

In Beijing, temperatures hit a record high of around 40 C (104 F), the highest since 1951, according to the capital's meteorological authorities. Jinan, Shandong Province, saw temperatures of over 38 C (100 F), forcing zoo authorities to step in and help cool their animals
