Get ready to turn those Monday blues into some Monday booze: Earlier today, Great Leap Brewing announced the reopening of their #12 Brewpub.
Last May, the famed local brewery was forced to suddenly close its cherished Xingfucun location after a landlord dispute over the kitchen and brewing facilities, and Beijingers gathered in masses on closing day to mourn the major blow.
Though, all was not lost: From then on, the space continued as a base for Great Leap’s general operations, while owners Carl Setzer and Liu Fang planned the brewpub’s slow resurrection. During the time, the duo had plenty of projects to keep them busy, including unveiling a fresh Lido location and building an enormous production facility in Tianjin, but plans to restore Great Leap #12 remained a focal point.
“We worked hard to not lose the property [...] Dealing with landlords is a challenge in this ever-changing city,” says Setzer. “But doing business in China always comes with a choice – you can quit or you can fight.”
Fight they did, and you can finally get a taste of sweet victory at the same #12 location tonight. The brewpub will be open daily starting at 5pm.
Note: There’s no kitchen this time around, so don’t come hungry for Great Leap’s famous burgers (get your fix at Great Leap #45 or Lido). However, you can expect 22 taps dispensing copious amounts of beer. And really, that’s all we need.
“As you all know, we have never been known to give up, we don’t lie and we try to manage expectations,” says Setzer.
“Sometimes it pays off.”
We guess hoppy endings do exist, huh?
