Sep 20: The All Seeing Hand

Hailing from Wellington, New Zealand, The All Seeing Hand (ASH) are a part-Mongolian throat singing, part-turntabling and part-drumming sonic sensation. The out-of-this-world trio are about to embark on their first 12-city China tour, courtesy of Chengdu-based promoter Kiwese. Considering the band's intense sound, that critics have described as "seven levels of f**** up weirdness" (Sonic Masala), gig-goers are in for a mind- and eye-blowing show. The tour kicks off in Beijing at School Bar on Wed (Sep 20). Check out our full interview with ASH right here.

Wed Sep 20; RMB60 (advance), RMB80 (door); School Bar, see event listing.

Sep 21: Hanna Turi

Not only does Swedish singer-songwriter Hanna Turi have an unreal voice but she kinda kicks ass on the piano too. She has a magnetic way of combining piano and trap beats with her captivating lyrics. She's returning to the capital for a show at Tango on Thursday night.

Thu Sep 21, 8-10pm; RMB180-280. Tango, see event listing.

Sep 22: Yugong Yishan's 13th Anniversary

Yugong Yishan is a pillar of Beijing’s live music scene and they’re celebrating lucky number 13 with a huge birthday party this Friday (Sep 22). And they’re doing what they do best – providing a killer (and we mean killer) night of gigs. Raggabund are a German band known for mixing all sorts of energetic and latin-infused sounds together, from reggae to dub to dancehall to hip-hop. Beijing's own Nova Heart will also be performing. The post-rockers have become well-known around town for their radio ready hooks and sensual, and at times jarring, tunes. Shoegaze band Default will also take the stage in what is sure to be an epic night of music. There will also be some special guests performing at the big bash, though we haven't been let in on the secret.

Fri Sep 22, 9-11.30pm; RMB150 (door) / RMB100 (presale). Yugong Yishan, see event listing.

Sep 22-23: Kamasi Washington

Known for his politically-conscious lyrics, jazz musician Kamasi Washington has made quite a buzz in the music world. He's toured with the likes of Snoop Dogg and Raphael Saadiq. And he'll be landing right here in Beijing for two nights of shows at Blue Note on Friday and Saturday. This is definitely one to check out.

Fri-Sat Sep 22-23, 7.30-9pm; RMB500-600. Blue Note Beijing, see event listing.

Sep 23-24: Ketchup Festival

Ketchup Festival is taking over Beijing’s top live houses for two whole days of music mayhem. During the multi-day event there will be shows at Temple, DDC and Fruityspace. The idea is to merge music and art together, which is why the whole thing will start with a pop-up market at DDC on Saturday. After that there will be a show at Temple featuring Gao Jiafeng and Dirty Fingers. On Sunday, there will be an early show at Fruityspace and at night the whole thing moves to DDC where SUBS, MC Dawei and others will take the stage.

Click here for tickets (RMB80 (door); RMB60 advance).
