Sep 7: Lenka

Remember that song from Moneyball that was stuck in your head for weeks after seeing the movie? Well, that song is called 'The Show' by Australian singer-songwriter Lenka. She'll be performing songs off her latest album The Bright Side on Thursday night. Expect Lenka's signature upbeat, poppy tunes.

Thur Sep 7, 8-10pm; RMB280-1,080. Century Theatre, see event listing.

Sep 7: Super School Fighter September Vol. 1

The Super School Fighter series is back every Thursday night at School Bar. As always you can expect to see the best up-and-coming bands. The first installment of the series will feature Sisi YuFan, Yu ZeYang and Shen XueChen.

Thur Sep 7, 9pm; RMB40 (door) / RMB30 (presale). School Live Bar, see event listing.

Sep 8: Rachael Yamagata

Yes, Rachael Yamagata is a songwriter described as ‘soulful.’ We know many songwriters are described as ‘soulful.’ But hear us out: Yamagata isn’t just any old singer with a guitar and emotions, she’s one of the best. With haunting vocals, deeply confessional lyrics and folk-rock vibes, Yamagata has the ability to touch even the most apathetic listener.

Fri Sep 8, 8.30pm; RMB260 (advance), RMB320 (door); Yugong Yishan, see event listing.

Sep 9: Penicillin

Join Chinese indie rockers Penicillin as they celebrate the release of their debut album Embrace the World. The punk-inspired trio are bona fide #millennials, all born in the 90s and penning songs about quintessentially 20-something topics like studying abroad, dreams of traveling and, of course, love.

Sat Sep 9, 9pm; RMB120 (door), RMB100 (presale); Yugong Yishan, see event listing.

Sep 12: Margaret Glaspy

Margaret Glaspy is an incredible musician who blends folk and blues with her extraordinary voice. Her influences range from Bill Withers to Elliott Smith, from Weezer to Rage Against the Machine. She'll be playing a special Concrete & Grass Beijing sideshow at Yue Space on Tuesday (Sep 12). We have a feeling this one's gonna be good. There’s no support act, so make sure to get there on time.

Tues Sep 12, 8pm, RMB60 (presale) / RMB80 (door). Yue Space, see event listing. For presale tickets, click here.
