Nov 7-27: Pop Up Doggy Cafe

penny-s.jpg

For the month of November, Penny’s will be transforming the Artemis garden into a dog-friendly café and play area. Bring your furry friends to their revamped (and enclosed) terrace, grab a seat (and dog bed) and sip on either a cup of coffee or a cocktail. Pups can also be pampered with some of Penny’s dog treats or a bowl of hot bone broth. Penny’s will also be hosting weekly dog-friendly brunches on the Artemis terrace on Saturdays and Sundays.

Nov 7-27. 11am-7pm (Tuesday-Sunday). Artemis, see event listing

Nov 9: US Presidential Election Results

In case you forgot (which would be impressive) the US presidential election takes place on Tuesday. Well, results will actually start rolling in at around 8am on Wednesday morning (Beijing time). In case you don’t want to watch the results all by your lonesome, there are a few places around town that will have live coverage of the election. Plus, they’ll have food and drink specials to either celebrate with or to numb the pain with, depending on how things go.

Nov 11: Speed Dating on Draft

This Singles’ Day the folks at Jing-A and The Big Smoke are offering an alternative activity to the usual buying-cheap-crap-on-Tmall: six rounds of speed dating and drinking. We know: awkward small talk with six strangers who may be DTF – does it get any better than this? Yes, yes it does, because six Jing-A beers accompany the six rounds. Each round lasts for seven minutes or until someone finishes their beer. So, get chuggin’ – or don’t, if you’re seriously digging the person opposite you.

Fri Nov 11, 7-9pm; RMB50 (ladies), RMB100 (lads); The Big Smoke, to register call 6416 2683 or email emmy@jingabrewing.com.

Nov 12: Beijing Night Screening (An Indie Film Festival)

indie-film-fest-poster.jpg

The Indie Film Festival is back. On Saturday, 20 directors will gather at Modernista to screen their independently made short films. Not only are many of these directors award winners, but there are a handful of films that have not previously been shown in Beijing. As always, the Indie Film Festival will not only be entertaining but it’s a great chance do some networking with the Beijing filmmaker community as well as marketing and media professionals. There will be tons of great films, food and drinks. And, of course, That’s Beijing will be there as well.

Sat Nov 12, 3-10pm. RMB70 presale (call 13691425744 for tickets). Modernista, see event listing.

Nov 12: German Ball 2016

Kicking off ball season is the German Chamber of Commerce with its German Ball, the biggest social event for the German community in Beijing. How German. The 16th German Ball will pay homage to the art-infused capital, Berlin, and will be full of eating and dancing, accompanied by a great live band and show acts.

Sat Nov 12, 6pm; Kempinski Hotel Beijing, Lufthansa Center, (contact chen.sarah@bj.china.ahk.de, 6539 6663 for more information)

Nov 12: Pop-Up Bei-bling – Jewelry Workshop with Gengyi

201611/161025-POP-UP-BEIJING-KIWI-DRINKS-BEIJING-33-REDUCED.jpg

Johnny is very well-known for his traditional Chinese jewelry designs. He’s actually created head-pieces for TV and film as well as designed pieces for the likes of Fan Bingbing. Impressive, right? As a new member of the Pop-Up family, he’ll be leading a workshop on Saturday. And if this is anything like their last jewelry design workshop, it’s going to sell out fast (make sure to reserve your spot!). During the workshop you’ll have the chance to learn from a master and create your own broach and a hair accessory.

Sat Nov 12, 3-5pm; RMB588. To register email hello@popupbeijing.com or call 6502-5725. Pop-Up Beijing, see event listing
