A woman was arrested for allegedly trying to bring firearms onto the Beijing subway, the Beijing News reports.

The incident occurred at Gongzhufen Station (on Line 1) on July 13. The guns were allegedly located inside a black suitcase the woman was carrying and were spotted by an X-ray baggage scanner operator.  After seeing what looked like gun-shaped objects, the staff member calmly and quietly notified the other security guards, who then called the police.

Upon opening the suitcase, police discovered two firearms – a 90-centimeter-long gun and one 15-centimeter-long gun. There were also 50 bullets in the suitcase.

The woman was detained by police, and the case remains under investigation.

According to the same article, guns have not been confiscated on Beijing’s subway lines since security checkpoints were implemented in 2008.

While guns have not been found, over 900,000 items – including knives and explosives – have been confiscated by security guards, and 47,000 passengers have been questioned by police since that time.
