July 13: Need a Name & Russian Roulette @ School Bar

Looking for a gig to go to tonight (Wednesday)? Well, you’re in luck because it’s punk and emo night at School Live Bar.  Plateau (psychedelic with a pop-punk twist), Nuclear Power Box (ska-punk), Need a Name and Russian Roulette will all be performing.

July 14: Surfer Blood

After being dropped by Warner Bros and losing their guitarist to cancer, Surfer Blood have gone from being Florida’s most exciting new band to indie rock’s survivors. But now they’re ready for act two. Last year’s 1000 Palms – their first album since being dropped by Warner Bros – was praised as a welcome return to the noisy hooks of their celebrated debut, Astro Coast. They currently touring around China for the first time ever and they’ll be dropping by Yugong Yishan on Thursday.

July 14: Italy Funk – Octopuss 2016 China Tour

Octopuss brings with them an amalgamation of sounds, mainly funk and rock. The Italian trio is highly influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Beatles. Fans say that they’re one of the best underground live bands around. See for yourself on Thursday at DDC.

July 17: Retro-Future Music Fair

Record stores and labels, including Genjing and Fruity Shop, take over School Live Bar to sell records and gear at the first Retro-Future Music Fair. On stage, meanwhile, three bands represent the 70s, 80s and 90s (The Peppercorns, The Hotline, and Elenore, pictured, respectively). Don’t be fooled by the name, this is all about supporting local bands in the present day. Dress code is Future-Retro, and you can interpret that how you like.

July 19: DDC's 2nd Anniversary w/ Paramecia & Harridans

In celebration of their second anniversary, DDC is having a whole host of great shows this month. On July 19, Paramecia (folk-rock/prog-rock) and Harridans (psychedelic rock) will take the stage. Stay tuned for next week’s gig guide for more anniversary shows at DDC.
