The Drop is bringing one of France's most exciting underground producers, Moresounds, to Dada this Friday. He'll be playing a one-hour live set of his own material, with support coming from local hero Oshi and a surprise guest (that even we don't know yet).
Ahead of the show, we had a quick chat with the man himself (see below). We also have three tickets to give away. To enter, just follow our WeChat account (Thats_Beijing) and keep an eye out for competition details later today.
If you don't win, fear not: it's only RMB50 on the door.
Your bio describes you as "a master of dub" and a "scholar of jungle." Which one is it?
I would say dub, because you can find some dub vibes into jungle too. Dub has influenced so many styles of music and has also influenced the way I make music since I started out.
How has the reaction been to the Outer Spaces EP?
I’ve been very impressed with reactions to Outer Spaces EP – loads of positive feedback! Also the EP sold out the week after the release. So crazy.
You've put out records across a lot of different record labels – are you looking for a permanent home, or do prefer to keep switching labels between releases?
I'm very happy and proud working on like Om unit, Fracture or Doc Scott labels, I really prefer to keep working with only few labels and making new records with them.
How does the electronic scene in Paris differ from other European capitals like Berlin and London right now?
I've really been focused on doing music that I want to do. To me, in the Paris scene it's more difficult for [the type of] music that I actually make. It's become easier, because some promoters are trying to push it, but the Parisian electronic scene is techno and house music, and I’m not so involved in these scenes.
What can Beijing expect from your set here?
A big spaghetist live setup with some footwork ghettodub jungle flavors and some massive sirens through infinite feedback delays.
Not sure what that all means, but sounds good. When can we expect more sounds from Moresounds?
I released three EPs recently, on Astrophonica, 31 Recordings and Original Cultures. But I definitely have some new projects on the way, so stay tuned for a surprise!
