That's mandarin is an excellent school. They really helped me to improve my Chinese conversational skills. The staff are all extremely helpful. The teachers are amazing. The enviromentb is great and it's also conveniently located. I recommend That's mandarin to anyone trying to learn Chinese or improve their current skill.
I started taking online 1:1 classes when I found out that my work needed me to move to China. While I usually prefer face-to-face lessons (hence the 4 rating for environment), I had a great teacher and improved quickly. The classes in the beginner and intermediate levels are based off of video dialogues. I learned Japanese in a similar way, and I think it is a great way to learn a language in context. One point I loved about the classes is how the teachers are very responsive to student needs. Toward the beginning of my classes, we would practice translating the conversations from English to Chinese, but after I told my teacher that translating wasn't as helpful, she was able to find other ways to help me get more from the lessons. We were able to do more free-talking at the beginning of classes, and focused more on vocabulary (I have a background in other asian languages, so grammar wasn't much of an issue for me). She helped make it the perfect individualized class. On the occasions
If you're thinking of starting1:1tuition,I'd highly recommend That's Mandarin. The Online learning system is easy to follow, and the opportunity to review past lessons, And preview up coming ones has been really helpful in my language learning
journey. My teacher is very encouraging(and patient!) which has made the experience really enjoyable, and I look for ward to each lesson and tracking my progress. This system works very well doing lessons virtually, which makes it a great hybrid model if you plan to do some virtually(especially if not in China) and some in-person.
