Ride The Beijing and Tianjin Subway Networks with a Single App

Starting from February 6, passengers who travel between Beijing and Tianjin can use a single app to ride the subway and light rail networks in either city.

The latest versions of the Beijing 亿通行 app and the Tianjin 天津地铁 app are available to download. Commuters can link via WeChat Pay or Alipay. Whereas commuters previously had to switch between the two apps, only one app is now required to commute in either Beijing or Tianjin. Users can simply select the appropriate QR code for either city.

Tianjin locals Emma Cao and Anita Wang, who work in Beijing, both travel regularly between Beijing and Tianjin, and said that taking the subway in either municipality is one of the easiest ways to get around. They expressed their delight that in the future, they would not have to spend extra time flicking through their phones looking for different apps.

With high-speed rail as well as other transport links between Beijing and Tianjin, the number of commuters between the two cities has only grown in recent years. Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province are part of an integrated region referred to by an amalgamation of the short names for each place – ‘京津冀.’

The latest move is just another small step in bringing Beijing and Tianjin closer together.
