Looking for a quick Mid-Autumn Festival getaway fun for the whole family? Then here’s an exciting experience you can’t miss!
We’ve teamed up with the Trendy Adventurer group to arrange an exclusive art discovery tour in Hangzhou for parents and kids over the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday (September 13-14). You and your family are invited to join this fun and educational weekend adventure.
The tour will kick off with a traditional Chinese moon cake making session. You’ll learn all about the history and folklore behind hand-carved wooden cake molds and even get hands-on experience making them yourself. Not only are traditional Chinese wooden cake molds great for preparing your favorite pastries, cookies, breads and soaps, they also make for wonderful kitchen or home décor pieces. During Mid-Autumn Festival, they are used to design cakes that symbolize hope and fortune in the coming year.

Next, you will be invited to taste the delicacies of the famed Grand Canal. Local dishes like West Lake fish with vinegar sauce and Longjing shrimp are sure to be a great introduction to classic Hangzhou cuisine.

Afterwards, you’ll get the chance to experience the charm of zharan, AKA ‘Chinese tie-dye.’ Zharan is a unique dyeing process in Chinese folk tradition. The process is characterized by a printing and dyeing technique in which the fabric is twisted into knots, then printed and dyed, before the twisted wire is finally removed. This unique artistic effect is difficult to achieve with modern printing and dyeing technology.

Participants will also receive VIP tickets to the iconic Impression of West Lake outdoor show. Directed by the legendary Zhang Yimou, who also directed the 2008 Olympics Opening Ceremony, this once-in-a-lifetime music, light and dance performance gives you the chance to experience the beauty of West Lake’s majestic landscape up close.
