Transportation hubs around China were flooded with passengers as the official public holiday period for Spring Festival came to an end this week.

Up to 11.8 million passenger trips were expected to be made on China's railway network on Wednesday alone as travelers gradually returned to major cities to go back to work. That represents a 7.6 percent increase from 2017.

Here are some photos from jam packed train stations, roads and other major transport routes taken around the Middle Kingdom yesterday and today.

Haikou, Hainan

Foggy weather during the holiday temporarily led to suspended ferry services, resulting in a traffic jam of epic proportions at Xiuying Port in Haikou, Hainan Province. More than 100,000 passengers en route to Xuwen, Guangdong Province were stranded at the port due to the traffic jam.
