Minor Science has come a long way in his career, transforming from a leftfield house explorer into an engineer of hybrid, hi-tech music which doesn’t quite sound like anything else out there.
His debut, 2014’s Noble Gas EP for connoisseur label The Trilogy Tapes, showed promise: its lead track, “Hapless”, was played extensively by DJs like Ben UFO, and was described by The Wire as, “a pleasing clip round the ear.” The British producer has since become a key figure on Nic Tasker’s fast-rising Whities label, reflecting the label’s preference for unique artists with a bold sonic direction.
Three records for the label have seen Minor Science move both forwards — his music has become crisper, richer and more distinctive — and backwards, drawing on his formative experiences as a clubber in London’s dubstep scene and a longterm fascination with the UK’s dance heritage.
