As part of the exhibition École du soir (The Evening School), artist Christian Nyampeta co-convenes a “scriptorium” working group with Chen Yining, Huang Shiyun, Cao Shuyun, Yang Ziyu, and Zhao Yiren to translate text by Senagalese philosopher Souleyan Bachir Diagne into Chinese. Open scriptorium sessions invite the public to consider “embodied translation” as an everyday experience and to experiment other methods of translation through movement, performance, storytelling, and other creative expressions. Their "translation" will be presented at the close of the exhibition in a final session (1 June) that invites everyone to continue the project of “thinking Africa” as "thinking language to language" together.
