Hai Di Lao is perhaps China's best-known (and loved) hot pot chain, famous for its remarkably accommodating service. Expect a wait at peak times, but prepare to be entertained by all sorts of time-killing services, including manicurists, free watermelon slices, games, a kids play area, computers and more. When you do get to your table, expect a cheap and cheerful menu of frozen beef slices, vegetables, mushrooms, noodles – hand-pulled at the table, no less – and fiery soup bases.
