Aquatherapy. The word alone sounds soothing. Even before the treatment properly begins at The Ritz-Carlton, Guangzhou Spa, guests are encouraged to use the Wet Area, a spacious circular room consisting of showers, sunken whirlpool, sauna and a white marble steam room. This preparation opens up the skin’s pores, making therapies more effective.

The hotel is equipped with a two-tiered room containing two specialized beds, in order to provide the unique Vichy Aquatherapy treatment. Reclining on a towel-lined ceramic bed, which is heated from within, the body is first slowly warmed as a scrub is applied and then rinsed off by the Vichy shower. Named after the famous hydrotherapy village in France, the shower head is an adjustable arm of several showerheads strategically positioned along the Chakra points. The waterfall effect releases tension and improves blood circulation.

Moving to the sunken waterbed, a Green Coffee body wrap is applied. Research has shown that caffeine is an effective element in combating cellulite. Combined with natural enzymes, the wrap reduces water retention and the appearance of skin dimpling. The body is cocooned in three layers and the bed lowered, giving the feeling of being set afloat on a placid sea. A scalp massage is given while the warmth increases alongside the penetration rates of the wrap. All this water exposure could leave the skin feeling dry, but a rich moisturizing balm is applied during an anti-stress massage to ensure balance is restored.

To complete the experience, guests can later enjoy the extensive spa and fitness facilities, which occupy an entire floor of the hotel.
