The Scandalous Scoop is a regular feature where our editors share the latest food and drink gossip making the rounds in Guangzhou.
Colinmint Kitchen, serving up elegantly presented pasta and sandwiches in Jiangnanxi;
meaty shawarmas at Skewerz, housed in Somewhere Else’s former abode; the awesome Haizhu sushi restaurant ‘Fishing for Happiness’ (钓喜海产) that lets you catch your own dinner (read about it here); word Gail’s is about to make a comeback on Xingsheng Lu; the arrival of Doors, a Turkish chain (also coming to Xingsheng) that's popular in Shenzhen;
All-in Coffee, a welcome addition to Pazhou; a new co-working kitchen currently serving poke bowls, launched by Eddy from Feel More Coffee & Bagels (message him to find out the secret location); Jack & Roy Kitchen, a classy Western restaurant housed in a Dongshan mansion (open since late summer on Meihua Bei Lu);
So Acai’s delectable smoothie bowls (read our review here); and the eggs benedict at Bagel Bagel, which isn’t exactly new but is hidden in the vast underground network of Mall of the World (review coming soon).
We’re done with:
a new ice cream shop that goes by the unfortunate moniker of ‘Bloody,’ located in the same neighborhood as So Acai;
the fact Steveston Pizza near Tianhe Bei still hasn’t opened (we’ve been waiting for four months already); the grotesque (yet creative) fillings in pastries at Crazy Cake, a bakery combining hot chili peppers, cream and God knows what...
and finally, the almost nightly passport checks at Party Pier and other popular nightlife establishments in Guangzhou (remember to bring a copy of your passport with you this month when you go out!)
