WATCH: Grandpa Tries to Destroy Road Barrier in Foshan

We’ve all been there: you need to catch a bus or hail a taxi but roadside access is inconveniently blocked by white, metal barriers. Sure, they can be annoying, but most would agree (we hope) that they serve a purpose: to limit jaywalking, and keep people safe and traffic moving.

One man in the Guangdong city of Foshan, however, probably wouldn’t agree the barriers are a good thing, as demonstrated when he attempted to hack down a street-side fence to make a shortcut.

The individual, surnamed Huang, was filmed on August 28 using a hammer as well as his bare hands to try to take down a barrier. Several police officers showed up, foiling the attempt, and arrested Huang.

According to GB Times, the Foshan man told officers that he was trying to take the fence down because he was tired of walking around it every time he had to pick up and drop off his grandson at school.

We should note: the nearest crosswalk is only 30 meters away. Citizen Huang, think of the score you could achieve on WeChat’s step counter if you just hit the zebra crossing as usual.

The barrier-hating grandfather received 10 days of administrative detention for his antics.
