Teams of rowdy chefs and early risers gathered in the front entranceway of McCawley’s Irish Pub last Saturday morning to kick off the city’s first official chili tasting competition.
At the ungodly hour of 7.30am, seven squads of varying skill levels and nationalities united under one roof, chopping mounds of onions together in a tear-jerking display of coordination.
The cook-off, which began at noon, saw three attractive judges partake in a blind taste test, where they rated each chili by flavor, aroma, appearance, color, consistency and heat level.
Between shots of Moonshine and cups full of spicy stew, contestants and visitors chatted away midday, eagerly awaiting the final results.
At 3pm, a somewhat tipsy host called up the inebriated winners. Best dressed went to Hall & Oates – the chefs from Social&Co – people’s choice to the Green Gang, second prize to the Burning Buttholes and first prize to the Ring Stingers.
We’re thrilled to announce the entire bash was caught on camera by Christian Saavedra and Jake Resurreccion of Kreativ.Mindz – a group of independent artists and photographers.
And now, a sneak peek into the wild happenings of the 2016 Chili Cook-Off:
We look forward to seeing you all next year!
