Guangzhou’s fashion-forward clinked glasses with China’s top designers aboard a cruise ship on the Pearl River yesterday night to kick off Guangdong Fashion Week 2016.
The nine-day festival, which runs until March 28, will present dozens of staged events and feature 152 independent designers showcasing the best of Guangdong fashion.
Throughout the week, a series of festivities – including lectures, runway shows, cocktail parties and awards ceremonies – will be housed in the Guangzhou Textile Exchange Park and the Guangzhou International Fashion Trade Center, Hall 5 (though we're betting a lot will go down outside the official venues in more covert locales).
One of China’s top designers, Lin Jinliang, will also be at the event this year to showcase his highly anticipated ‘Door God II’ collection (门神II). Inspired by traditional images of ‘door gods’ – frightening spirit warriors clothed in vibrant robes that were believed to guard one’s home in ancient China – Lin’s collection is a brilliant mix of colorful patterns grounded in metallic monochrome.
He has abandoned straightforward expression this season, instead adopting retro floral patterns, bronzing techniques, embroidery and a combination of diverse materials to achieve innovative breakthroughs in the line.
As part of Guangdong Fashion Week, Shenzhen will also hold its own runway shows and exhibitions from March 18-25 in OCT Harbour. Stop by to view the work of over 200 local designers and get a head start on spring 2016 trends!
