Breaking a New Path
Born in 1943 in Guangdong’s theater-rich Shanwei, Xu Guling’s artistic journey spans continents and cultures. After relocating to Hong Kong in the 1980s and living abroad for decades, Xu combined traditional Chinese ink painting with bold experimentation. His works merge Eastern brushwork and Western color theory, breaking free from formal constraints to create expressive, multicultural canvases.
