Epic whale shark caught in Guangdong, lives to tell the tale

A fisherman in Guangdong got more than he bargained for when he reeled in a giant 1,500-kilogram whale shark while fishing over the weekend. Not only that, but he didn't even kill it.

Not only are whale sharks safe to humans, they're endangered. Nevertheless, when similar situations have happened in the past, they have resulted in the sharks' deaths and - dare we say it - eventual ingestion.

This shark made it out alive - according to China Daily, "locals [in Guangdong] have a custom of releasing big fish to the wild."

That's not to say nobody took it for a ride:

Just ridin' that whale shark

It's just to say that nobody killed it - and that's certainly a step in the right direction.
