China didn't do well on International Women's Day. Feminist activists were detained, women at the NPC were referred to as 'beautiful scenery' and Baidu's doodle - a dancing doll in a box surrounded by make-up and jewelry - was far from an empowered role model. That said, North Korea (as it typically does) has taken things a step further.
According to The Telegraph, lil' Kim decided to celebrate women's empowerment by... giving make-up to pilots' wives.
The state-run KCNA (which, even compared to the Global Times is a super-troll) was all over this as well, saying that Kim also dubbed women "a dynamic force pushing ahead the with the revolution and construction," which we suppose is nice.
KCNA continues to say that Kim "made sure that the song 'Love Your Wives' was presented to the women across the country on International Women's Day," which sounds weird to us because women don't typically have wives in North Korea.
The state-media message goes on to gloriously testify that "The Korean women's movement greets the heyday of its development as it is led by Marshal Kim Jong Un." Because of course North Korea's women's movement is led by a man.
