If you're like us, you wake up each morning and think, "Wouldn't it be nice if the Chinese government had a much greater capacity to monitor my daily life?" Well, you're in luck.
Baidu, China's search juggernaut, is aiming to create a massive "big data" artificial intelligence system (very cool!) and are proposing that it be integrated with the national government, thanks to a Baidu representative attending the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference this week (not as cool) according to the South China Morning Post.
Baidu's program is called the "China Brain" (中国大脑), and could cover everything from self-driving cars to military drones. Robin Li Yanhong, Baidu's attendee to the CPPCC, told the SCMP that artificial intelligence will "transcend the boundaries of current human capability [and] strengthen the nation."
Baidu currently operates a series of AI labs, including one in California. If (or when) Baidu gets its artificial intelligence program fully up and running, it has the potential to revolutionize online search and daily computer-human interactions.
It will also give heaps of informational power to those with access to the 'China Brain.' So lets all hope that this program is more "diagnose medical problems with technology" and less "stalk everyone out with automated drones."
