Anhui man buys RMB7,000 Samoyed, finds out it's a fox

A man from Anhui Province who bought a "dog" during a trip to the country's north-east some time ago recently found out that his pet wasn't a dog all along.

When he purchased the pet, the breeder assured him that was a pure-bred Samoyed, the Siberian sled dogs prized as one of the most expensive breeds in the world. For just RMB7,000, he probably thought it was the deal of the century.

The unscrupulous seller, however, was the one who got the last laugh, because what he'd just sold the poor sap wasn't a Samoyed at all but an arctic fox.

The man's suspicions were aroused after the pup/kit grew up and something didn't seem quite right. He didn't have that signature 'Samoyed smile' and showed little to no interest in herding reindeer. He even "didn't smell right."

A friend who worked as a dog breeder was called over and he confirmed that, despite his brilliant white coat and dazzling blue eyes, this was no Samoyed.

The arctic fox has since been given a new home at the Hefei Wildlife Park in the Dashu Mountains some ten kilometers from the city center. There, he'll hopefully feel more free to connect with his true self and not have to live up to unrealistic expectations.

In case you're now wondering whether or not your Samoyed is really an arctic fox, here are some side-by-side comparisons to help you out:
