An Air Asia flight from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore is reportedly "missing" after having lost contact with air traffic control.
155 people boarded flight QZ8501 at 5:20am local time. The Airbus 320 was scheduled to arrive at SIngapore's Changi Airport at 8:.
According to Indonesia's Transport Ministry, Jakarta air traffic control lost contact with the aircraft somewhere between Kalimantan and Belitung island at 6:17am after requesting an "unusual route."
One Singaporean, one Briton, one Malaysian, three Koreans and 149 Indonesians were on board the flight.
Air Asia Indonesia has released the following statement:
AirAsia Indonesia regrets to confirm that flight QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore has lost contact with air traffic control at 07:24hrs this morning.
At the present time we unfortunately have no further information regarding the status of the passengers and crew members on board, but we will keep all parties informed as more information becomes available.
The aircraft was an Airbus A320-200 with the registration number PK-AXC.
