Elderly man in Henan smacks up punk who wouldn't give up bus seat, dies of heart failure

Photos and video footage of scuffles on board buses and trains when young people won't voluntarily give up their seats to elderly passengers have become an almost daily occurrence in China.

The familiar conflict had an unexpected outcome at 4:00pm on Tuesday afternoon, however, when an elderly gentleman got into an altercation with a young man on board the 919 bus in Zhengzhou, Henan province.

An eyewitness recounted: "the old man asked the young man to give him the seat but he refused, so the two started arguing."

The old man then slapped the boy across the face four times, to which the latter made no counterattack. As the old man was preparing to alight at the next stop, he continued getting more and more worked up about the disagreement and collapsed on the bus. Paramedics were called but after 40 minutes confirmed the man's death.

Family of the deceased have confirmed that he had heart troubles and police confirmed that he sustained no external injuries.

Perhaps his loved ones can take some solace in the fact that he died doing what he evidently loved: trying to slap some sense into the youth of today. Offering your seat to seniors may not be the height of heroism, but turns out it might just save a life.
