He's no Jason, but today another star has arisen in the well-loved genre of foreigners behaving atrociously on Chinese public transportation.

Yesterday, local press in Sichuan province learned that last Friday a blond "European or American" man who apparently understood no Chinese boarded a bus in provincial capital Chengdu and paid only two mao when he boarded the vehicle. When the driver informed him that it costs two kuai to take the bus he simply paid no heed. But that's just the rude bit — the crazy comes thick and heavy later.

After the man missed his stop, he approached the bus driver and reprimanded him in Chinese: "I want to get off! It's your fault you didn't open the doors for me!" At least we know he's got absolutely no excuse for only paying a fraction of the full fare. The driver, surnamed Yang, had indeed stopped at the previous stop but no passengers alighted.

The foreign passenger than began randomly pressing buttons along the driver's dashboard in an attempt to open the doors. When this proved ineffective, he grabbed hold of the steering wheel, demanding that he stop the vehicle.

Yang managed to continue driving the bus to the next stop and opened the doors. As he left the vehicle, the passenger knocked the driver on the head. "It didn't hurt," Yang said, "but it was very insulting."

"They always say people from developed countries are more safety-conscious," Yang told reporters. "How could this guy be like this?"
