The leader of an urban management squad (chengguan) who attacked a family out for a stroll in the park in Hefei, Anhui Province has been fired, Global Times reports.
Three officers were also given disciplinary penalties, authorities said. They reportedly mistook the family for pyramid scheme salespeople.
An official from the Anhui Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau was walking with his parents, wife and relatives at Swan Lake when the officers approached and - without explanation - beat them with bamboo staff.
Six were injured, one with a broken back.
20 people were arrested in Lingxi, Zhejiang Province after they beat a group of chengguan who had attacked a passerby who attempted to film them acosting a shop owner. In January, the widely loathed chengguan were voted China's "least trusted" government agency.
