Local authorities reported on Monday that 24 people were sent to two local hospitals with symptoms of food poisoning after dining at a wedding banquet in Xining, Qinghai province, on Sunday afternoon.

According to Yang Zhenping, director of Qinghai Provincial People’s Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 24 people have been sent to hospitals with diarrhoea, abdominal pain, vomiting and nausea after they attended a wedding banquet in a restaurant in urban Xining. They have been preliminary diagnosed with suspected food poisoning.

Some have left the hospital in stable condition, Yang added, but 11 people were still receiving medical observation on Monday afternoon, with three of them in critical condition.

Police and health authorities are investigating the incident.
