China's tennis fans are starting to get excited as 20-year-old sensation Zheng Qinwen swept aside fifth seed – and last year's US Open runner-up – Ons Jabeur 6-2, 6-4 on Monday, to reach her first Grand Slam quarter final.

"Right now I feel just super happy and excited to play in a big stadium," Zheng said after her milestone victory. "I had a really good performance today; Ons is a fantastic player and really tough to beat. It's a really impressive win for me."

Earlier this year, Zheng reached No. 19 in the WTA rankings, becoming just the fifth Chinese player ever to break into the top 20, after Li Na (No. 2), Wang Qiang (No. 12), Peng Shuai (No. 14) and Zheng Jie (No. 15).

She now becomes China's first US Open quarter finalist since Wang Qiang in 2019. The 23rd seed will meet Aryna Sabalenka – who is set to become the new world number one – in the last eight, with the game scheduled for midnight on Wednesday.
