A man in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province proposed to his girlfriend Wednesday with a bouquet of banknotes worth 200,000 yuan ($32,990).
The romeo, surnamed Chen, said he'd broached the topic of marriage to his girlfriend's parents over Spring Festival. Her mother reportedly implied strongly that Chen should buy a house and car if he wanted to marry her daughter.
Chen decided to use all his savings for the proposal instead: "The money is far from enough to buy a house, and I think buying a car is unnecessary."
Folding the paper roses took Chen over a week, even after he enlisted the help of friends and colleagues. Chen was finally able to pop the question on February 12, she said yes.
At least he didn't dress up as Garfield.
