This afternoon around 3pm, Zhang Zixin’s body was discovered at Songlan Shan Scenic Area in Ningbo’s Xiangshan county, according to Dushi Kuaibao.
Local reports revealed that Zhang’s body was discovered floating in the sea by fisherman in the area. Police are currently investigating the cause of death.
Today was the third day authorities and volunteers carried out the search and rescue mission for Zhang.
The young child was taken from her home in Hangzhou on July 4 by two tenants in the same building. The two tenants, both in their 40s, asked to take Zhang to Shanghai for a friend’s wedding, which the father, who was living in Tianjin at the time, did not approve of (Zhang’s mother abandoned the family in 2015). The girl’s grandparents allowed her to go anyways, leading to a series of bizarre and unfortunate events that included both tenants dying by suicide on July 8.
A land and sea search and rescue mission began three days ago after Zhang’s ID card was found at a seaside pavilion in Ningbo’s Xiangshan county.
She was just 9 years old.
UPDATE (July 13, 2019 5.58pm CST): This article has been updated to include recent reports about where the victim’s body was located.
