3D printing appears to have reached another milestone after a power distribution room made with 3D printing technology started operating this week.
According to Xinhua, the electrical room is the first of its kind in China, and was built using a digital 3D model. This advanced method of construction saw a 30 percent reduction in construction time and was said to reduce the amount of dust and waste created during normal construction.
The newly built electrical room, located in Liwan District, took less than 35 days to build, and required only one operator and two 3D printing technicians to complete the job.

Wu Xiaofei, a spokesperson for the power supply bureau in Guangzhou, told Xinhua that Guangzhou is increasing its efforts to broaden the city’s power supply networks and that 3D printing technology is an efficient, intelligent and eco-friendly way to continue this development.
In other 3D printing-related news, Science and Technology Daily reported last month that China is mulling over options that may see 3D printers used to build a solar power station to capture the Sun’s energy and send it to Earth.
