The seven members of China's Politburo Standing Committee were unveiled at the conclusion of the 19th Party Congress this morning.
President Xi Jinping will retain his position as general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee for the second term. Xi was also named the chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Like Xi, Li Keqiang also continues his post as the Standing Committee's second-highest ranked member.
The members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau ("Politburo") will be Xi, Li, Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji and Han Zheng (former Shanghai mayor). The new leaders — pictured above — were revealed to the press this morning at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
All of the Politburo Standing Committee (PSC) members are over the age of 60 and near the age of retirement, indicating no clear successor to Xi for the next term. Some speculate that this puts Xi one step closer towards staying on for an unconventional third term.
Out from the PSC are Wang Qishan, Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Liu Yunshan and Zhang Gaoli.
Wang Qishan, the 69-year-old anti-corruption chief previously rumored to also be repeating another term, indicated instead that he would be retiring from the Central Committee earlier this week. He'll be replaced by 60-year-old Zhao Leji.
The new members of the Politburo were also revealed this morning. Of the 25, just one is a woman — Sun Chunlan.
The leaders of the Secretariat and Central Military Commission were also named.
