Getting something stuck in your ear is an undeniably unpleasant experience, whether it be a pebble shoved in your earhole on the primary school playground by some jerk named Stan or a tiny jumping gecko entering your auditory orifice looking for a hideout.
While the former scenario is probably happening daily in schoolyards around the world, the latter scaly situation recently happened right here in Guangzhou, when a teeny reptilian unceremoniously entered a napping man’s ear canal.
When the man awoke, he immediately realized something was amiss and proceeded to try and pull the creature out of his ear. As one might have expected, this backfired and caused the presumably frightened lizard to crawl even deeper into the man’s head.
At this point the man headed to First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University, where the attending emergency room physician used anesthesia to calm the gecko before using tweezers to remove it alive from the man’s ear.
Since the reptile had no tail after being removed, an extensive search of the man’s ear canal was launched to ensure it was not still inside. No sign of the appendage was found and it’s assumed the creature lost it before entering the victim’s ear.
The man was released from hospital with no complications and told to “rest for two days,” according to Southern Metropolis Daily. The doctor later described the procedure to reporters as “painstaking.”
While this man’s super-intimate gecko encounter left no permanent damage, had it pieced his eardrum and damaged the ossicular chain, he would have been left with hearing loss and sense of dizziness.
So far in 2017, we have reported on all manner of human-orifice-animal encounters, including the Guangzhou man who shoved an eel up his ass back in April and that shocking video released back in March showing a woman boldly insert an eel where no fish had gone before.
