The roughly two-and-a-half-year relationship between Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson and pop singer-songwriter Wanting Qu has come to an end, according to South China Morning Post.

The mayor’s office confirmed to the Hong Kong-based publication that Robertson and Qu, whose mother is fighting corruption charges and a potential death sentence in China, “are no longer together. They ended their relationship in May.”

Qu, 33, was born in the northern Chinese city of Harbin and moved to Canada at the age of 16 to study international business.

She began her relationship with Robertson, 19 years her senior, back in January of 2015 – just six months after the politician publically announced he’d separated from his wife of 30 years, Amy Robertson.

Those familiar with Qu’s Instagram, where the mayor had become something of a regular, were probably beginning to suspect something was up, with their last photo together posted to her account on Christmas Eve.

Since the start of the year, Qu has invested much of her time focusing on the trial of her mother, Qu Zhang Mingjie (61), for abuse of power, embezzlement and bribery in China.

The prosecution has requested that Zhang, who has denied the allegations against her, be executed.
