Local news in Guangzhou reports that a newborn girl was found swaddled in a black plastic bag at the doorstep of the Beishan Village Health Center, located in the Beishan enclave of Guangzhou's Haizhu District.

After a swath of locals gathered around to ogle at the infant, the girl was moved from the Beishan clinic, which provides only basic medical services, to a proper hospital.

Interestingly, the child's parents are known to local police. The father, surnamed Feng, is depicted by the reporting news source as a tricycle riding shifu ubiquitous on the Guangzhou streets.

The report goes on to detail that the child was left at the Beishan health center by Feng's girlfriend, who is also the mother of the baby girl. The parents are reported to be at the hospital now with the baby, who is thankfully in stable condition.

There has been a spate of newborn abandonemnts of late in the Pearl River Delta megalopolis. During the Chinese New Year, a six-month-old was found abandoned at the Linhexi stop on the Guangzhou Metro. In March, a police officer discovered a baby accompanied by a pair of RMB10 hongbao abandoned in a carriage in Panyu.

This time, the baby was mercifully deposited of near a provider of medical services, unlike last week when a Shenzhen teen dropped a baby in the garbage.

Maybe the radical new sex-ed curriculum coming out of Beijing should add a chapter on not jettisoning your baby.
