In the early hours of February 24, Futian District police in plainclothes kicked in the door of an apartment in a Shenzhen urban village and seized the couple in their 30s who lived there.
Their crime? Livestreaming pornographic, or 'yellow,' videos for profit.
The woman's last name is Mo, while her husband's surname is Jin. But on their livestreaming platform and to their main QQ group of around 2,000 fans, they're better known by the monikers 'Sister Fei' and 'Sister Fei's husband.'
Although police didn't reveal the details of their illicit 'performances,' a video of them questioning Mo and searching the couple's apartment turned up plenty of props used in their videos. They included sequined masks, lacy underwear and a whip.
Evidence gathered at the scene
The couple was outed by a concerned netizen who reported one of their videos to Futian police on February 22. On a streaming platform called 'Thai Temptation,' 'Sister Fei' had revealed a scandalous amount of skin and teased viewers for about 20 minutes.
According to police, Mo's husband was not only supportive of his wife, he even joined in on some of her 'performances.'
Futian police teamed up with municipal forces as well as an elite group from the Huaqiangbei police station in order to form an investigative force. They tracked down Mo and Jin's location, and on the morning of the 24th, burst into the apartment while Mo was preparing for a 'performance' and her husband was sleeping.

During initial questioning and further investigation back at the police station, the details came out. Mo and Jin had been streaming 'yellow' content for about six months before the police shut them down. They'd gradually recruited around 2,000 viewers from around the country to their main QQ group, where Mo posted details before every livestream.
Mo at first claimed that she livestreamed only "for my own entertainment," but later admitted that she made some money off it as well. It took a RMB20 fee to enter Mo's QQ group, and watching each livestream cost viewers another RMB10.
The biggest proceeds were from tips during performances, from which Mo received a 30 percent cut. In one day she could earn a few hundred yuan a day from tips alone.
That number may seem modest, but since Mo broadcast on multiple platforms, her income was probably larger. Police say they are still calculating her total income from streaming.
The couple is being held in police custody for disseminating obscene material for a profit. The case is still under investigation.
